The Hornets fell to the Spurs 68-76, in front of a sold out crowd to kick off each teams summer league campaign.
The game also gave the world its first glimpe of Victor Wembenyama, as he was pitted against number 2 overall pick Brandon Miller.
Whilst Miller bounced back from a relatively poor run in the Californian Classic, showing his deep shooting and his rebounding abilities, as well as some lockdown defence- highlighted by a steal on Wembenyama in the 2nd quarter-whilst the French phenom showed some early jitters, smoking an open dunk and multiple other open jumpers, finishing just 2/8.
2021 first-rounders James Bouknight and Kai Jones showed promise after a disappointing summer to date, notching 14 and 7 points respectively, including a monster Kai Jones dunk over Victor Wembenyama. But most of all it’s was their defence and hustle that proved their worth, with a combined 19 rebounds, 3 steals, and 2 blocks between them.
The Hornets now look to their key matchup with the Lakers on Sunday.
